Insulating Your Garage – Combo Tips

More and more homeowners are using their garages as extensions of their living space, as children’s play areas, workshops, hobby areas, laundry rooms, etc.  As the activity in the garage increases, so does the need to maintain a constant, comfortable temperature in this space.  For the ceiling, walls and crawlspace use Foam It Green Polyurethane Spray Foam Kits to increase the comfort level in your extended living space.   With an R-Value of 7 per inch, and a tight air seal, you’re getting the most bang for your buck.

Here’s an added tip- get a good garage door.   You can increase insulation value and energy efficiency with a quality door.  That way, you won’t lose the great value you’ve added by using the Foam it Green as your insulation.  Look for a door with an R-value of at least 5 in moderate to temperate climates in harsher climates go up to an R-value of 10.

Get a door with weather seal between the sections. The seal may be designed into the mating surfaces of the panels or it may be in the form of gasket material that compresses when the door is closed.  Finally, make sure it has a bottom seal/threshold.  If the door doesn’t come with a bottom seal standard, add one to keep drafts, rain, and pests out.
